Sub-surface storage

Sub-surface storage
Master Sciences de la Terre et des planètes, environnementParcours Geosciences for the energy system transition

Description

This course is focused on underground storage concerning CO2, methan and heat. Key elements would be given to students to consider geologic storage as a viable technology for reducing atmospheric emissions. An overview of storage capacity in Europe would be addressed. In this framework, it would be necessary to address concerns related to leakage from the primary storage reservoir and demonstrate that gas can be injected and stored safely in the geological formations. Risks and hazards associated with geological storage would also be addressed. Finally, active and passive monitoring methods will also be discussed through applied cases, in addition to the seismic methods already covered in the Monitoring teaching unit.
